Preventing Homelessness - One Tenant at a Time
An overwhelming majority of tenants in Philadelphia do not have an attorney to represent them at their eviction hearing. Your limited representation of a tenant can make the difference for a family struggling to stay in its home.
To train volunteers on serving these clients, VIP is having a Landlord-Tenant Training on Friday, January 29th, from12:30-2:45 pm (lunch provided), at Dechert LLP, Cira Centre, 2929 Arch Street, Philadelphia. Rasheedah Phillips, Managing Attorney at Community Legal Services, and Ethan Fogel and Kate Ericsson of Dechert will be leading the training.
The scope of representation for a VIP client is usually one Municipal Court hearing, possibly with brief follow-up. Volunteers will be referred cases in advance of the hearing; VIP can work with any volunteer to find a case that matches the volunteer’s availability.
Attorneys who attend and accept a VIP case within 6 months (or who just recently accepted a case from VIP) will receive 2 free CLE credits.
