Hispanic Bar of PA to Honor Cynthia Figueroa with La Justicia Award and Celebrate the Elevation of Hon. L Felipe Restrepo to the US Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit

On Thursday, February 11, 2016, at 5:30 p.m., the Hispanic Bar Association of Pennsylvania (HBA PA) will recognize Cynthia Figueroa for her dedication to justice by awarding her the 15th Annual La Justicia Award. The ceremony and reception will take place at the City Hall Law Library, Room 600, City Hall, Philadelphia, PA 19107. The entrance to City Hall is on the Northeast corner of the building. This event is free, however, RVSP is required.

In addition to the La Justicia Award ceremony, the HBA PA Board will celebrate the elevation of the Hon. L Felipe Restrepo to the US Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit. Judge Restrepo becomes the second Latino judge ever to serve on the Third Circuit and the first one from Pennsylvania.

"We are excited to recognize two outstanding Latino pioneers: a community based leader and one of the most distinguished members of the judiciary. It is a manifestation of how the HBA PA is engaged in all aspects of the Latino community,” said Priscilla Jimenez, President of the HBA PA.

The HBA PA is a professional organization committed to the social, economic, professional, and educational advancement of Hispanic attorneys and the Hispanic community. The HBA PA La Justicia Award recognizes individuals with a longstanding commitment to the advancement of the Latino community who exemplify those qualities of the human spirit to which we all should aspire.

The HBA PA Board selected Ms. Figueroa for the award based on her activism on behalf of victims of domestic violence and her stewardship of Congreso de Latinos Unidos, a nonprofit organization with a mission to strengthen Latino communities through social, economic, education and health services, leadership development and advocacy. Currently, Ms. Figueroa is playing a leadership role in organizing nonprofit service providers in Pennsylvania to call for a resolution to the Commonwealth's budget impasse. The stalemate is affecting the state's most vulnerable populations and its social service sector workforce.
